Glenn Beck For President? The Band Wagon Begins!

Ever since a Black man FAIRLY won the last presidential election (unlike in 2000 and 2004), Right Wing America has been waiting for its savior. Someone who can stop the current crop of Socialists/Communists/Fascists (take your pick) in the White House out to radically transform the nation and return the country to the soft-focus, ennui of the Eisenhower Era: when men were men, woman listened (or else!), and The Gay knew better than to strut their stuff openly, let alone demand to not be discriminated against. Now their prayers have been answered. The Connecticut group “Main Street Bites Back” has the answer to everything ailing the country: Glenn Beck for President, 2012.
MSBB has gone the full Monty, building a wonky website to anoint our next fearless leader. It’s full of unintended whimsy, starting with the YouTube announcement from MSBB’s founder Robin Potwora. Looking more like a cross between Carol Channing and Chrissy Snow than a kingmaker, she begins the clip below by saying “Welcome to the Back Beck Twenty-Twelve Initiative.” However, with her accent it sounds more like she’s saying “beck, beck,” as if she’s calling the chickens home to roost. And, it just goes down hill from there. Watch:
“Band wagon” might be a more appropriate analogy than you realize. Eisenhower had just taken his seat in the Oval Office when MGM released its blockbuster musical, The Band Wagon. And, MSBB harkens back to the Fabulous Fifties in another way. To raise funds to elect Beck AND to pay down the national debt (apparently two ideas that are not mutually exclusive) they are having an old-fashioned tag sale. As the coquettish Potwora tells us in another unintentionally hilarious video, tag sales are as “American as apple pie.” Among her more grandiose ideas are to sell Hawaii, because “it’s just hanging out there,” and California, because “it’s sucking us dry”.
Can the “Elect Glenn Beck Bake Sale” be far behind?
